Homeopathic nosode is a homeopathic remedy that has been made from the infectious organism / tissue of a disease. Prepared properly the homeopathic nosode carries none of the toxins of the disease, but they do carry the energy of the disease. They are safe and carry no side effects, making them a great alternative and have been used successfully for many years.
They work best at times of exposure to a disease and shortly after, or if an animal have never been well since the disease. Many people use these as prophylaxis to a disease and are a very good alternative for people wishing to find a more natural treatment or vaccination for their animals with no side effects.
How they do work is to stimulate the body’s vital force to heal itself. Therefore if the body has come into contact with a particular disease, the nosode of that disease can be used to stimulate the body’s immune system to fight that disease. For example an animal going into kennels you would give them the appropriate nosode, a few days before they went in and again when they come out. This should be enough to stimulate their natural immune system; therefore if they come into contact with a disease they will be a better situation to resist it.
Dr. George MacLeod, in his book "Dogs: Homeopathic Remedies" put it perfectly when he said that nosodes: "…give a more solid immunity in as much as it incorporates the entire defence system, which is mobilized as soon as the nosode is taken into the mouth and builds up protection with each further dose. This build-up leads from tonsillar tissue through the lymphatics incorporating the entire reticuloendothelial system. This procedure is equivalent to what is known as `street infection' viz., ingestion of virus etc. during daily contact with other animals, when immunity would be built up in the same way."
It can be said that if the body is healthy and the immune system has not been compromised then there is no need for the nosode to work.
The best protection against any form of disease is to have an animal with a healthy immune system for long term well being. This can be done through good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.
But we must make people aware that while many people use these in the prevention of the disease, there is no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of this treatment. Therefore we cannot make these claims. Some people may be under the impression that nosodes develop antibodies in the body similar to conventional vaccinations; this so far has not been scientifically proven. So people need to make their own informed choices on using nosodes as vaccinations for their animals.
